Paulo Sousa, sitar player, was born in Lisbon in May 1964. On his eclectic musical journey he explored the best of different styles. During the 80's he was a guitar player and left recorded works with Essa Entente. During the beginning of the 90's he continued his development at the Conservatório Regional of Setúbal, where he concluded the course in Classical Guitar and joined the 'Old Blues Band'.

To develop his skills and performance better he enrolled at the Jazz School in Barreiro. It was during this time that he discovered the sitar and started to study this instrument in parallel with everything else he was doing.

His fondness of music with a contemplative nature, and his travels in the north of India during 2000, firmly put him on the road with Ragas and the Sitar. He became immersed in the study of Yoga and Hindustani classical music. With his music he intends to share his experiences, and to give his interpretations of a musical style that necessarily allows the emptying of creative capacity where the different emotions of the human being can gain colour and sound.

In the Spring of 2005 he produced his first sitar work, founding the duet "Alap" with tabla player. João Moreira. and with the precious participation of Paulo Cavaco. who played synthesizers and helped to record and produce, and with Teresa Gabriel who sang in the song "Luar sobre o Trilho". The record was launched in June of 2005.

During 2006 he took sitar and sarangi lessons in London with Indian musician Pt. Baluji Shrivastav.

On October 2006 he went to India to extend his knowledge of Indian Classical Music and of the Sitar. Funded by a Fundação Oriente Scholarship he now lives in Pune, in the state of Maharashtra, where he studies with his Guruji Pandit Hindraj Divekar, Master of Rudravina and Sitar. He also learned with another sitar player of another tradition called Swanand Arole.

On 11th October 2007 at CCB in Lisbon he played in a live concert organized by Antena 2 with a live broadcast to this radio station. The name of the concert was "Sitar for the Evening". He played with Makarand Tulankar an indian tabla player.

This concert was recorded in CD. In April, it was released with the same name, "Sitar for the Evening".
